Ethical Apparel Africa (Ghana)

Keren Pybus and Paloma Schackert founded Ethical Apparel Africa in 2015 to prove that living wages and a competitive garment business belong together. In 2021 the company acquired Maagrace Garment Industries in Koforidua and grew it into Ghana’s second largest garment factory, and its largest solar-powered one. Its export orders pass the audits international brands require, including SEDEX SMETA and WRAP.

Nearly 1,200 people work at Maagrace today and earn about four times the local wage. Women hold more than 45 percent of management roles. Talanton’s investment, its first in Ghana, backs the plan to grow the workforce to 2,000 by 2030 as EAA works toward 10,000 manufacturing jobs across West Africa, more than 70 percent of them held by women.
