From Ksh 300 a day to leading a production team
When Adlight speaks about her story, her voice carries both humility and quiet strength. Raised in Busia and supported by her parents, she always hoped for a stable future, not just for herself, but for the niece she now cares for as her own child.
Adlight Nabwire
Key Operator, BURN Manufacturing

Before joining BURN, life was far from easy. She worked in a small hotel earning only Ksh 300 ($3) a day, struggling to pay rent and unable to afford her niece’s school fees. “Before I joined BURN, I couldn’t even put food on the table,” she recalls.
That changed in 2019 when she joined BURN as a casual worker. For a year and a half, she worked diligently, learning fast and showing leadership long before she had the title. Her hard work paid off. In 2020, she became a full employee, beginning a chapter that would transform her life.
After a year as an operator, she was promoted to Key Operator, a role where she helps plan production, monitors targets, and ensures every product is of the highest quality. Today, she leads a team and is in her third year as a Key Operator.
Among her proudest moments is one she remembers with a smile, being recognized as Employee of the Month and rewarded with a fully paid vacation to Mombasa with her parents. It was her very first time flying. “It was unforgettable. I had never been on a plane before,” she says.
With a stable income came stability at home. Adlight is now able to pay school fees for her 16-year-old niece, whom she has raised since she was 11. She saves consistently every month, Ksh 7,000 ($54), with two dreams in mind: to build her mother a proper home and to start a small cosmetics business. “I want to build a house for my mother, then start a shop. That’s why I save,” she explains.
But her generosity doesn’t end within her household. Each year, she buys BURN stoves with her own savings and donates them to families in her village who cannot afford clean energy products. “Some people back home don’t have access to what I have now. I want to help them save money and protect the environment.”
Despite the challenges that come with leadership, she speaks with gratitude about her path. Support from her managers and teamwork have helped her grow into someone she never imagined she could become. And she’s not done yet. In the next 5 to 10 years, she hopes to rise into a senior leadership role where she can help shape decisions, improve production systems, and contribute even more value to the company.
She also loves the culture at BURN. “This company focuses on quality and gives people the opportunity to grow. It’s a place where I can keep developing my skills.”
Adlight’s story is one of resilience, opportunity, and giving back. From earning Ksh 300 to becoming a confident leader providing for her family and supporting her village, she embodies the spirit of hope that transforms not only individuals, but entire communities.
