About Burn Manufacturing

Burn Manufacturing was born from a simple but powerful observation: over 3 billion people worldwide still cook with traditional methods that produce harmful smoke, leading to 4 million premature deaths annually. In Kenya alone, indoor air pollution from cooking was one of the leading causes of respiratory illness, particularly affecting women and children.

The founders saw an opportunity to address this crisis through technology and local manufacturing. By establishing production facilities in Kenya, they could create jobs while solving a critical health and environmental challenge. Today, Burn operates one of Africa's largest cookstove manufacturing facilities, employing nearly 2,000 people and reaching over 1.3 million households.

What Makes This Business Special

Burn's innovative cookstoves deliver an 81% reduction in harmful emissions while cutting household fuel costs by 40-50%. Their pioneering "Pay-as-You-Cook" financing model removes upfront cost barriers, allowing families to access life-saving technology through small, manageable payments that make clean cooking both healthy and affordable.

With over 50% of their workforce being women and 70% African management, Burn creates meaningful employment opportunities in communities with limited options. They've strengthened local economies by paying $18.9M to over 1,250 African vendors, ensuring that their impact extends throughout the supply chain and supports regional economic growth.

"BURN exists for only one purpose, to save lives and forests. We believe the best way to do this is through the local design, manufacture, and distribution of best-in-class cooking appliances that include electric, LPG, and biomass stoves. Thanks to the hard work of our team, bringing these stoves to every household in Africa is now within reach."
