From casual labor to a five-year contract
Verena was born in 1992 in Rususa, Rwanda. She is 34 years old, and life has not been easy for her. She lost her mother at the age of three, and from that moment her father raised her and her younger siblings alone. As the eldest child, she carried the responsibility of supporting her father and helping care for the family at a very young age.

Due to the financial hardships her family faced, Verena was unable to continue her education beyond Primary Five. Later, to support her family and her own children, she worked as a casual farm laborer from 2016 to 2022, earning RWF 1,000 per day (USD $.70). Despite the difficulties, she remained determined to provide for her children and ensure they stayed in school.
In 2022, Verena was fortunate to secure part-time employment with PRI in the construction department, earning RWF 1,500 per day (USD $1). After one year of dedication and hard work, she was promoted and offered a five-year contract in the production plant with a monthly salary of RWF 90,000 (USD $62). This opportunity transformed her life. With the stability of formal employment, Verena was able to renovate her family home, consistently pay her children’s school fees, and invest in livestock. Today, she rears five pigs, which generate additional income and strengthen her path toward financial independence.
PRI has given Verena more than employment. It has restored her hope and dignity. Through training and guidance provided by the company, she has learned how to manage her income wisely and plan for the future.
Her goal is to continue working diligently, ensure her children receive proper education, health insurance, and school supplies, and contribute positively to the growth and success of the company. Verena is deeply grateful to PRI for lifting her family out of poverty and giving her the opportunity to build a better future.
